Peptide histidine methionine (PHM) is a twenty-seven amino-acid neuropeptide with considerable sequence homology to VIP, which is derived from the adjacent exon of the preproVIP gene.
In common with other members of this family of peptides, it inhibits secretion of gastric acidand stimulates insulin release, although these effects occur only at pharmacological doses.
